Poll: Romney takes slight lead in NC

Republican Mitt Romney has taken a slight lead in North Carolina, according to the latest Public Policy Polling survey.

The former Massachusetts governor is the choice of 49 percent of likely N.C. voters, the poll found, while President Barack Obama is the pick of 47 percent.

Two weeks ago, PPP -- a Democratic-leaning firm -- had the two presidential candidates at 48 percent apiece.

It's still close: Romney's lead is within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.

But PPP said that Romney's performance in his first debate with Obama improved his image in the Tar Heel State. Now, 49 percent of N.C. voters have a favorable view of him, compared to 46 percent who don't. That's a reversal of what his favorability/unfavorability numbers were in the last PPP poll.

PPP said Romney is ahead in North Carolina mainly for two reasons: He has a 30 point advantage with white voters (63 percent to 33 percent) and he leads among independent voters, 54 percent to 40 percent.

In other other findings, N.C. voters thought, by 46 percent to 42 percent, that Vice President Joe Biden won the recent vice presidential debate. But they have a slighter higher opinion of Romney's running mate, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, 48 percent to Biden's 47 percent.

"North Carolina continues to look like one of the closest states in the country," PPP President Dean Debnam said in a news release. "But things are trending a little bit in Mitt Romney's direction and Obama needs a strong performance (in the second debate) Tuesday night to get things going back in the other direction."

PPP surveyed 1,084 likely N.C. voters last weekend (Oct. 12-14).

North Carolina is one of nine battleground states in the presidential race. The others: Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Iowa, New Hampshire, Colorado, Nevada, and Wisconsin.

So no demographics giving for the polling sample and Romney is "only" up 2 points despite being up 14-16 points nationally with independents not to mention voter enthusiasm is way down for President Libya Cover and GOP enthusiam is way up and pay no attention that the PPP is a liberal poll and the Obama is not making ANY appearences in this state and you know why? Take a guess.

"Barack Obama is the pick of 47%."

47%? Big news. Even Romney admits that.

CommonCents said...

NC will not be that close. Dems have already removed most of their funding for the state election. They need to concentrate their attention of Ohio and Wisconsin. FL and VA will follow NC into the Romney camp.

So when the poll favors Romney, it's correct? I can't keep it straight. I had my "Obama supporter" insignia ripped off my car in the Clt Douglas US Airways employee lot. When your candidate is winning, you don't have to DEFACE other's property. I don't think the governor will win NC. He surely won't win Ohio, nor Florida. That being said, I'm still glad NC is now a battleground state. Both parties have to spend money here now as it should be. Straight red or straight blue states actually miss out be being so narrow minded.

This isn't an Elon poll so I wouldn't believe it.

Elon is too busy trying to remove Chic-Fil-A off campus. They don't have time for polls anymore.

Let me get this straight. The President let's Romney get away with being overly aggressive and telling lies during the debate, and the President loses ground in the polls. Joe Biden calls a liar a liar and gets criticize for being overly aggressive. And unlike the President, Ryan actually gets cool points for seemingly being calm under pressure. I'm so glad it's not pollsters polling that decide elections, but rather voters voting that decide elections. I think I'll just ignore the polls and vote.
I think the majority of North Carolina voters like their common sense friends in VA, Florida, and Ohio will vote to re-elect President Obama.

The president was not "calm and cool under pressure". He was shell-shocked. Nobody challenges him like that... not the press, not his "inner circle". The topic was the economy and he has nothing to run on except excuses.

WH lie for Libya is now pure ignorance not the film? At least try to keep your lies straight.

Farikan or however you spell his name said that Obama did want to beat up a white man as he would lose the white vote.

Now think about the kind of mentality that comes up with that kind of reasoning.

Ok now explain why Obama has a special section for African Americans on his website, which tells of special considerations and the like experienced by African Americans. Now imagine such a thing on Romneys site?

Tell me what is really wrong with this whole thing?

Anonymous said...

@ Ettolrahc - I was upset when I read your comment regarding Obama's site having a special site just for African American's, because I don't think that's appropriate for him to favor a group, so I decided to check it out. You failed to mention that on the same page, he also has special sites for: Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders, Catholics, Educators, Environmentalists, Jewish Americans, Latinos, LBGT Americans, Native Americans, nurses, parents, people of faith, people with disabilities, rural americans, seniors, small business owners, sportsmen, veterans & military families, women, & young Americans. Please people, do some fact checking before you listen to people supporting either candidate! I'm so sick of the lies or certain facts being left out when making statements against either of them.

Anonymous said...

It will be close for sure.

However, a consensus of polls gives NC to Romney.

Anonymous said...

Of course, no Blacks or Latinos were included in this poll, you can bet on that. Hence, I don't believe them. These groups will again allow Obama to win NC on election day.

Ettolrahc said...

Hey all those special groups on the Obama website just goes to show how fractured our country has become.

I hope this one shows up on the fair Observer website.

Some others have been taken down.

Obama lies as usual and never mentioned a "terrorist attack" per ABC news in the infamous Rose Garden brief blaming of course on some bogus film by a muslim Egyptian living in CA as he preached not to degrade other pagan religions such as islam.

Its good the editors for ABC didnt edit the tape after being caught redhanded in other situations even as the obese female liberal from CNN interrupted Romney 50 times and should have been expelled from the room.

Romney easily wins a 2nd round. Its all over but the crying for the pretender bin Osama muslim jihadist in the WH.

Obama and his CNN liberal protector obese female Crowley, who interrupted Romney 50 times, both lied on the Rose Garden briefing after Libya never mentioning the words "terrorist attack" and blaming some bogus irrelevant muslim Egyptian made film in a outright lie while islamic jihadist al-queda Obama opportunistically preached on hating other pagan religions.

The real question is whether Obama and lib cable rag CNN both had anything to do with rigging the death of Consolate Stevens and the 3 ex-Seals killed by the Libyan Revolutionary puppet Govt installed by Marxist revolutionary Obama.

How do you know if Obama and his rotten to the core liberals are lying? Their lips are moving.

Romney wins a 2nd round. Decent America is not fooled by liberal lies and deception.

Its all over but the crying for the pretender in the WH and his CNN Crowley enabler who needs to stop stuffing her fatass gut 24/7.

Jobs are not created in a policy vacuum. If 12 million jobs will be created in the next 4 years, it must be because of the economic policies put in place by the Democrats in Congress and President
Obama, during the past 4 years. We know that 13 out of 15 independent studies report that the Recovery Act saved and created millions of jobs. If an Act creates jobs, then it is a Jobs' Act. Let us perish the lie that the Stimulus Act was not a Jobs' Act.

In addition, Democrats in Congress and President Obama have cut taxes for small businesses 18 times. If small businesses are the major drivers of job creation, and cutting taxes help that process,
therefore, these tax cutting policies, and other economic policies resulted in the creation of over 5 million jobs in the past three years. These same policies and President Obama's proposed Jobs' Bill
will be the main creators of the 12 million jobs in the next 4 years, as predicted by Moody Analytics.

History teaches us that Republican business men who have been Presidents of the United States, have not been major creators of jobs. The first Republican business man who became President was Herbert Hoover (1929-1933). He ushered in the Great Recession, and when he left office 6,400,000 people were unemployed. The next business man was George H. W. Bush (1989-1993). He founded Zapata Petroleum which
became Penzoil. With all his business experience and expertize only (2,593,000) jobs were created during his 4 years in office. The third Republican business man was George W. Bush. He served two terms and ushered in the second Great Recession! He created 1,108,000 jobs after 8 years in office. The main conclusion that can be drawn from this
poor economic history of Republican business men is that their business experiences only benefits themselves and their investors, and not the nation, at large.

Mitt Romney's business experience will not create the number of jobs that the country needs. History is against him, and so is his own jobs record as Governor of Massachusetts between (2002-2006). The Boston Globe on July 29, 2007 gives detailed information of Governor Romney's jobs record. When Mitt let office, Massachusetts was 47 out of 50
states in payroll employment. Manufacturing jobs delined by 14%, the 3rd worst in the nation. The main export when Romney was governor was
its working population. The US Census Bureau calculated that between (2002-2006), 222,000 people left Massachusetts. That was 3.5% of the
state's population. Governor Romney record shows that he is poor jobs creator at the state level. This is not a credible jobs record to be voted in as President of the United States.

History, and Mitt Romney's experiences as a governor; 'leveraged buyout specialist' and 'pioneer of outsourcing' of American jobs overseas militate and conspire against him creating 12 million jobs in
4 years.

If the electorate wants a jobs creator then it must vote for a Democratic senate, House and President. Jimmy Carter was President between (1977-1981) and he created (10,339,000) new jobs. Bill Clinton
was President between (1993-2001). He created (22,740,000) new jobs. Barack Obama has created 5 million jobs.

It is clear from these numbers that Democratic Presidents of the United States have a great jobs creation record. If voters want a jobs creator, then vote Barack Obama for a second term as President of the United States.

Pedophile homosexual enablers who molest and abuse young boys always in agreement as Obama protects these pervert demonics who need to be beheaded.

Obama has said nothing while campaigning about his support and promotion of all pedophile homos who are a stench to decent society. Muslims behead them or cremate them alive knowing the perverted corruption they cause to youth.

Muslims have a 100% cure rate of these diabolical criminals who lurk and prey on young children in the Boy Scouts or other places and supporting and promoting Obama the enabler.

At least muslims are good for something but nothing else and will be used to cleanse an sanitize America and the planet of these perv predator bacteria germs or other deviant problems.

Get rid of the stench in the WH and elsewhere.

Accused homosexual and murderer Obama promotes deviant behavior with his serial mass murderers as homosexuals and pedophiles who according to all studies have a common thread in history throughout the world.

Up until 1973 these perversions were considered mental illness's with a cure rate of 50% yet president Obama has indirectly normalized mass murder by homosexuals and pedophiles.

Obama protecting and promoting mentally ill behavior of serial deviant child or youth murdering predators such as John Gacy or Wayne Williams and all other is abominable to say the least.

Time to return to treating the ever increasing growth of sexual perversion brain disease as the mental cases they are and bring back the strait jackets and hospital stays.

Is PPP really "Democrat-leaning"?

I like evidence, not rhetoric. Here are the actual election results from the battleground states in 2008, compared to PPP's polls at that time:

Colorado – actual: Obama +8.5, PPP: Obama +10 (skewed Obama by 1.5 points)
Florida – actual: Obama +2.5, PPP: Obama +2 (skewed McCain by 0.5 points)
Indiana – actual: Obama +1, PPP: Obama +1 (exactly correct)
Iowa – actual: Obama +9.5, PPP: no poll
Nevada – actual: Obama +12.5, PPP: Obama +4 (skewed McCain by 8.5 points)
New Hampshire – actual: Obama +9.5, PPP: no poll
North Carolina – actual: Obama +0.5, PPP: Obama +1 (skewed Obama by 0.5 points)
Ohio – actual: Obama +4, PPP: Obama +2 (skewed McCain by 2 points)
Pennsylvania – actual: Obama +10.5, PPP: Obama +8 (skewed McCain by 3.5 points)
Virginia – actual: Obama +6.5, PPP: Obama +6 (skewed McCain by 0.5 points)
Wisconsin – actual: Obama +14, PPP: no poll

So PPP's battleground state polling in 2008 was skewed by an average of 1.6 points (toward the Republican candidate). This is reasonably accurate.

Using the exact same comparison, CNN's final battleground state polls in 2008 were skewed by an average of 0.7 points (toward the Democratic candidate). This is accurate.

Using the exact same comparison, Rasmussen's final battleground state polls in 2008 were skewed by an average of 4.0 points (toward the Republican candidate). This is NOT accurate. In addition, Rasmussen was skewed toward the Republican in each and every one of their polls, a clear sign of bias.

Hello, my fellow American voters!
I watched the Oct. 3rd and Oct. 16th presidential and Oct. 11th vice-presidential debates.
1st Romney-Obama debate covered 7 topics: jobs; budget deficit/debt; social security/entitlements; federal regulation of economy; healthcare; federal government role in economy; partisan gridlock.
2nd Romney-Obama debate covered 11 topics: college graduate jobs; gas prices; taxes; equal pay; Bush policies; Obama’s record; illegal immigrants; Libya; assault weapons; jobs; candidate misperceptions.
Ryan-Biden debate covered 10 topics: Libya; Iran; economy; medicare/social security/entitlements; taxes/tax reform/spending/budget cuts; military policy; Afghanistan; Syria; abortion; negative campaign tactics.
As an INDEPENDENT female feminist (egalitarian) voter, I support the Romney/Ryan ticket.
Romney and Ryan won all three debates, although Obama improved some in the 2nd debate.
Ryan won despite Biden’s consistently rude/disrespectful behavior during the debate
(Biden interrupted Ryan often, laughed often while Ryan was talking, pointed his finger often).
Biden’s tactics to evade issues/truth were disrespectful to Americans interested in facts, figures, forecasts, and solutions for real people with real problems.
Romney and Ryan won with substance, directness, integrity, respect, clarity, facts, commitment, inspiration, and leadership.
These debates confirm that Romney and Ryan are the best persons in terms of qualifications and character to lead our country to solve problems and make life better for all Americans.
I am inspired by Romney/Ryan, and I hope that you are too!
Best regards,
Cas Lee

Romney champ won the 3rd debate and TKOed the Obama chump.

Funny how homo cheats at the Observer vote 500 times to make it look like their beady eyed little beanpole won. What a laugh.

The only thing Obama has won in 4 years is being the worst president and biggest waster of 6 trillion over and above what the IRS takes in giving it away in reparations to any pan handler with an outstretched hand.

47% on govt assistance under the empty chair welfare bum in the WH who couldnt run a kids lemonaid stand yet knocks a successful businessman?
