1988 Convention head will speak in Charlotte

Don Fowler, who ran the 1988 Democratic National Convention in Atlanta, will be a featured speaker at a N.C. Democratic Party fundraiser in Charlotte next month.

Fowler, a Columbia businessman who teaches at the University of South Carolina, will join Democratic gubernatorial candidates at the St. Patrick's Day event at the Crown Plaza hotel.

Fowler, a former chair of the national and S.C. Democratic parties, was an adviser to Charlotte's effort to land the 2012 Democratic Convention, which kicks off Sept. 4.

In 1988 he was the man who ran the convention that nominated Michael Dukakis.

"You have to try to define what you think the party is," he said at the time, "and then devise what is basically a combination of theatrical and political techniques to convey that." Jim Morrill

Wait, there's gonna be some kind of convention here? I hadn't heard.

Was that the convention with the original s3x tape with Rob Lowe and the underaged girl in the hotel in Atlanta?

Yes 1988. You mean the same 1988 that had a Republican president and a Republican Senate. %^&*$%^ moron. Cant find much to blame the current administration for so you had to try to back a couple decades and couldnt even get that right.

What a random relevancy.

Someone with insight and experience from over 20 years ago is some star to follow and admire?

With all due respect, a lot of issues, costs and organizational needs are a lot different than in Atlanta some 24 years ago...

good grief.

Interesting. I passed an old volvo station wagon with a Dukakis sticker on it this morning.

I'm not sure that's a point in his favor. And 1988? That's 24 years ago, and a lot of things have changed since then. Not exactly sure how relevant his take on things will be now.

But I suppose anything that's related to the convention will generate some interest to someone. Somewhere.

The event is also honoring Susan Burgess and Judy Harrison Barry.

Either political party convention is just a waste of time and money that could have helped people who really need it, and I don't mean the moocher class that lives off free stuff generation after generation with no shame.

How can anyone get excited?

Speaking of bumper stickers, I saw one 'smart" lib yesterday who still hadn't figured out the Kerry and Edwards weren't on the ticket this year.

They just should make the Duke Power CEO speaker after all he recieved only 233,000,000 in green energy tax credits from our clown and chief in turn for a $10,000,000loan garuntee for the DNC.

Nice how that works with our money of course.

Will this be the year the barrier is broken against beastality bigotry & addressed at the DNC? America is so racist & bigoted. Sexual orientation should be expanded from same sex to include animal sex too. Stop bigotry against liberal owners & their pets in loving committed relations who should be legal & able to marry too. Dogs cats & farm animals have feelings too.
