McCrory to rebut Democrats in Charlotte during DNC

Republican gubernatorial candidate and former Charlotte mayor Pat McCrory will in fact be here for part of the Democratic National Convention, a spokesman confirmed today.

On Tuesday, the first official day of the convention, McCrory will be part of the Republican contingent fielding calls and doing press interviews to rebut the Democrats' talking points.

After that, he'll head to points east on his campaign.

McCrory played a similar role in 2004 during the Democratic National Convention in Boston. That year, you'll recall, John Edwards was on the ticket.

McCrory is, however, skipping the Republican convention in Tampa this week to campaign in the western part of the state. While he's in Charlotte during the convention, he might do a little campaigning among the Democrats, the News and Observer's Rob Christensen notes.

“I am proud the convention is there,” McCrory told the N&O. “I am going to try to get them to spend as much money in our state as possible to help our economy. Then I am going to try to convince as many of them who are attending from North Carolina to vote for Pat McCrory for governor. So I am going to be campaigning in Charlotte part of that time.”

Will McCrory be dissing Charlotte as 2nd rate too?

Better get the RNC in 2016...

The DNC is mad because they cant get everything free. That was supposed to be the deal.

Foxx never should have promised them everything was on the house with free rooms, free food, free hookers, free plane tickets, and free spending loot to boot...

You mean Mayor Foxx and others smiled and lied to the Democratic convention committee about Charlotte's "capabilities to host" in order to get next week's big event here?

That polite and dishonest behavior has never occurred in the South before. ;-)

That being said, I think Charlotte will do a better job transporting delegates from the arena back to their hotel rooms than Tampa did last night.

Charlotte isn't a strong Mayor form of government like most cities who get these conventions. In those cities, the Mayor has all the power. Here it's the City Manager. Only reason it's here is because Obama needs NC. I couldn't care less about them dissing us..let them stay home. Doubt if you will see McCrory diss Charlotte. He's not that desperaate.

McCrory? Give me a break. We didn't need him as mayor. We don't need him as governor. He's a GOP puppet dancing to the Big Boys' tune. He'll do anything and say anything to get elected governor, just like Romney's been saying and doing whatever it takes to try to get elected president. McCrory's just another panderer.

Get the anti-American terminal disease out of the White House ASAP. Nothing compares to the anti-business anti-capitalist screwball who has overspent 6 trillion in only 3.5 yrs.

What does Obamas 16 trillion debt look like?

I don't mind him. I'm a registered independent, but voted for him a few times as mayor. I voted for Foxx twice too. I haven't heard much about his or Walter Dalton's plan. I do appreciate the fact that he is a Charlotte cheerleader no matter what. I think a lot of the whining about the DNC being here by Republicans is embarrassing. I see Tampa Democrats in the audiences on talk shows shooting from there and they are happy the RNC is there spending money. I hope Charlotte goes after that convention one day also too. Any group that comes here and spends money should be welcomed.
